Easter Seals Northern Ohio
8/2011 - Easter Seals’ across the United States have been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 90 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals. Easter Seals Northern Ohio (ESNO) provides year-round speech and language therapy as well as summer programs to ensure that children have access to best practice tools and techniques that allow them to be successful in the classroom and in life through a program called, Building Blocks to Literacy.
In the spring of 2010, The Stocker Foundation provided $20,350 toward the purchase of state-of-the-art testing and therapy materials to improve language and literacy; an audiometer used to screen children for potential hearing problems; and toward financial assistance to families with children in need of language services but are unable to pay the fee. Hundreds of children participating in ESNO’s Building Blocks to Literacy program have already benefited and hundreds more will continue to benefit as many of the items purchased through the grant can be used repeatedly in future years. One of the ESNO speech pathologists reported that the audiometer was one the most helpful and useful pieces of equipment ever received!
