The Literacy Cooperative of Greater Cleveland
8/2011 - SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) is a family-focused kindergarten readiness program that works collaboratively with families, schools, and the community to ensure children’s school readiness and schools’ readiness to receive children and families. Services provided to SPARK families include developmental screenings, referrals and linkages to community resources, and home- and group-based learning opportunities, with the goal of increasing children’s success in school and life.

The Literacy Cooperative of Greater Cleveland (LCGC) launched SPARK Cuyahoga in 2010 as a pilot in three school districts: Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Maple Heights School District, and Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District.

Oakland Public Library
8/2011 - The concept for the 81st Avenue East Oakland Community Library began in 2004 when the Oakland Public Library received $6.5 million in funding from the California Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of 2000 (Proposition 14) to build a brand new community library in East Oakland. The plan included locating a new library on the same campus as two of Oakland’s New Small Schools – EnCompass Academy and Acorn Woodland School.

Super Stars Literacy
8/2010 - Super Stars Literacy was established in 2002 as a project of the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay. The program was the result of two years of community wide needs assessments, research, and collaborative program development with the Oakland Unified School District and several key community based organizations. Super Stars Literacy exists to build early literacy skills in primary grade students attending schools in underserved neighborhoods. The organization provides K-2nd grade students with a 3-year after-school program designed to nurture academic skills, encourage potential, and reduce the risk of academic failure in later grades.

8/2010 – SaddleBrooke Community Outreach was established in 1996 to make a positive impact on the lives of economically disadvantaged children living in the tri-community area of Pinal County. Primary services include: the Kids' Closet; a high school scholarship and mentoring program; an afterschool-tutoring program; emergency food assistance; and summer enrichment programs. The mission of SaddleBrooke Community Outreach is to make a positive impact on the lives of needy children in neighboring communities through improved self-respect, better school attendance, and higher scholastic achievement.

8/2010 – Camp I.D.E.A.S. is a month long summer academic program for children with special needs in the Lorain area. Established in 1988, the camp was created to provide special needs children with the same summertime activities as what their typical peers receive in a safe, educational, and fun-filled environment.

8/2010 - Located in the Mission District of San Francisco, the Mission Learning Center was established in 1972 as a summer reading program serving 50 students. Thirty-six years later, Mission Learning Center continues to grow, offering a variety of programs to meet the literacy needs of the community including afterschool literacy and summer reading programs.

Community Food Bank, Inc
8/2010 - The Community Food Bank, Inc of Tucson Arizona opened in a small facility on New Year’s Day 1976, making it one of the first food banks in the nation. Since those first few years, the Community Food bank has gone from serving 500 meals to 48,000 meals a day.
