| The Stocker Foundation Awards Grants in 8 Communities across the United States | |   | LORAIN, OH (March 15, 2008)—The board of The Stocker Foundation approved 53 grants totaling $620,020 to support programs in the areas of arts and culture; community needs; education; health; social services; and women’s issues. 23 grants totaling $300,945 were approved to benefit Northeast Ohio (Lorain and Cuyahoga counties). Blessing House: $30,000 continued support toward temporary respite care for children whose families are in crisis or transition
Children’s Developmental Center: $4,000 toward the purchase and installation of a new phone system necessary to sustain services to disabled children
Cleveland Orchestra: $5,000 toward ticket subsidies that will allow Lorain City School students to attend a Cleveland Orchestra Educational Concert at Severance Hall
Cleveland Play House: $7,500 toward a distance learning program (Cultural Diversity: A Journey through Landscapes) that connects Wellington High School students with urban high school students in Kansas City Missouri, over two years
Cleveland Public Theatre: $7,500 toward the continuation of Women’s Voices, a literary and theatre arts program designed for residents of the Elyria YWCA’s Women’s Campus Project
Cleveland Zoological Society: $10,000 toward scholarships for underserved children and youth to attend Summer Day Camp 2008 and to underwrite Dr. Z’s Traveling Show at economically disadvantaged public schools throughout Cuyahoga County
Conflict Resolution Center of the West Shore: $20,000 to provide mediation services and skill-building educational programs that help keep Lorain County youths, families, and neighbors out of the court system Conservatory of Music Outreach Department: $6,350 toward scholarships (i.e., Sting Camp 2008, Band Camp 2008, and the Summer Music Institute); all programs are held on the campus of Baldwin Wallace College
Elyria Hospitality Center: $5,000 toward ongoing services provided to disadvantaged individuals and families in downtown Elyria via the Food Pantry and Drop-In Center
Family Planning Services of Lorain County: $11,595 toward the Prisoner Health Project, providing reproductive/health education to prisoners at correction facilities in Lorain County
Far West Center: $25,000 toward technology and communications upgrades at the Amherst facility including the purchase and installation of clinician workstations, high speed Internet and email access, electronic health records software, and IT consultant fees
Goodwill Industries of Lorain County: $15,000 toward the purchase of a replacement vehicle used to pick up and transport donated items, insuring continued inventory for resale stores and full-time work opportunities for Job Club clients hired to transport donations
Helping Hands Feeding Foundation: $15,000 toward the provision of hot nutritious meals and a Choice Pantry for homeless and low-income residents of Lorain, Elyria, and Oberlin
Junior Achievement of Lorain County: $5,000 toward the implementation of JA in a Day at two public middle schools during the spring of 2008 (McCormick and Eastern Heights)
Leadership Lorain County: $15,000 toward scholarships for the 10-month Leadership Program (i.e., nonprofit sector and high school youth participants)
The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Community Center: $5,000 toward the purchase of clothing and food to be distributed to street-involved and/or homeless LGBT youth throughout Cuyahoga County
Lorain County Urban League: $20,000 toward Education and Youth Development programming (i.e., Early Literacy Book Distribution Program; Parent Involvement Workshops; In-School Mentoring; the High School Transitions Program; and the Urban Youth Empowerment Program)
Lorain United Methodist Ministries: $12,500 continued support of Camp I.D.E.A.S., a summer program for children with special needs and their typical peers providing academic, social, and functional skill instruction
Near West Theatre: $15,000 toward the implementation of two theater arts programs that will enrich the lives of economically disadvantaged youth and their families who may not otherwise experience summer programming or live theater
Nord Center: $25,000 toward the Kidz First Children’s Advocacy Center providing a multi-disciplinary team approach to the prosecution of child sexual abuse cases (i.e., partial salary support for the program manager)
Soul to Sole: $5,000 toward the purchase and distribution of Starbury athletic shoes to disadvantaged children and youth participating in Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County
Women’s Center of Greater Cleveland: $11,500 toward the implementation of trauma recovery model elements as well as behavior modification components (i.e., an incentive program) for addicted and medically indigent women
Women’s Link: $25,000 toward the establishment of a permanent endowment to sustain ongoing operations (e.g., counseling, crisis intervention, legal services, housing services, and short-term emergency loans) for LCCC students, primarily single or divorced women returning to post-secondary education late in life
